Survey. Men′s, women′s shopping habits similarMetro - November 30th - December 02nd 2012

The myth that women shop far more than men may officially be busted. Play Taxi Media, which runs a national network of touch screens in taxicabs, surveyed more than 8,000 riders (with an equal mix of men and women) about their shopping habits throughout September.

While 42 per cent of women said they spend more than $2,000 a year on clothes, men are nearly on par, with 37 per cent saying they spend the same. And while stereotypes assume men drop their cash only a few times a year, women have proven to be seasonal shoppers as well. Only 16 per cent of respondents said they go clothes shopping on a weekly basis, 32 per cent said they hit stores a couple times a month and a whopping 52 per cent said they go on seasonal splurges.

As for respondent′s favourite stores: Winners is the top department store, with 40 per cent choosing it over The Bay, Holt Renfrew and Sears. And while spendthrift women lean toward Club Monaco and Michael Kors, the bigger spenders among men prefer Banana Republic and Lucky Brand.
